The Mountain King novel

It seems Detective Leonor Asker is on the verge of a leadership position in the Serious Crimes Unit in the city of Malmo. But the administration decides to “promote” her in the midst of investigating a notorious abduction case, making her the head of a department they call the “Lost Souls,” a unit for strange cases housed in the basement of the police station. Despite the humiliation Asker has faced, she becomes entangled in one of the bizarre cases. Someone is placing small figurines resembling people in a model of a railway, with one of them representing the abduction victim. The case’s connection to abandoned places leads Asker to contact Martin Hill, an architecture lecturer deeply interested in urban exploration. Soon, both Asker and Hill suspect that behind this seemingly simple case lies an exceptionally sinister type of evil.
